We acknowledge the traditional Aboriginal custodians of the lands, waterways and skies of the Bunurong Peoples of the Kulin Nation where we gather, learn and grow at Aspendale Primary School.
We pay our respects to past and present Traditional Custodians and Elders of all nations, and their ongoing cultural, spiritual and educational practices.
We extend this respect to all Torres Strait Islanders and any First Nations peoples who learn or visit these grounds. We thank you for sharing and caring for the land we are learning on.

Dear parents and carers,
Welcome to Week 4 of Term 2. There is a delightful energy rippling through our school community at the moment with so many exciting happenings and celebrations to share.
Our 100th birthday celebratory assembly tomorrow is sure to be one to remember, as we welcome past and current members of our school community along to celebrate 100 years of education here at Aspendale Primary. We kick off the celebration with a tour of our beautiful school before our official assembly takes place just after 2:30pm. This will be followed by a good ol’ fashioned chin-wag, a slice of cake and coffee in hand, whilst exploring the photo exhibit in the school gym.
The celebrations continue as we launch into Education Week next week.
Across the state, students will be celebrating all things Education through the theme ‘Celebration of Cultures’, which highlights the diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe and welcome at school.
Our week begins with a bang, as we invite our Grandparents along to share in an afternoon of exploring and learning together on Monday 19th May from 2.00pm – 3.30pm.
The fun continues with a group tour for prospective families on Tuesday 20th May at 9:30am, please contact the office to book your place on this tour. A range of activities will be explored throughout the week with our classmates and buddies. We are looking forward to an amazing Education Week, celebrating and promoting the wide range of cultures and cultural connections in our school community.
Next week also marks the beginning of our Camps Program for 2025. Teachers, students and families have all been busily preparing for their upcoming adventures, with our Year 4 students first to board the bus on Wednesday, destined for 3 amazing days at Camp Rumbug. The adventures continue in week 6 with our Year 6 students heading off to Warratah Beach Camp, followed by our Year 5 students who will journey to The Ranch Camp in week 7. A huge thank you goes out to our teaching teams, education support staff and parent/carer volunteers, as our camps would not be possible without your amazing support.

We look forward to celebrating our Education Support team tomorrow for ES Appreciation Day. We recognise the crucial contributions our Education Support staff make to the students and community here at APS and look forward to celebrating them with a yummy morning tea.
With so many things to celebrate and look forward to, there really is never a dull moment here at A.P.S!
Take care,
Shey

This year is the 29th annual National Reading month, an initiative designed to encourage families to read together on a regular basis to create strong reading habits.
Take part in National Reading Month by making a commitment to read together for at least 10 minutes every day for the month of May.
You can sign up at https://scholastic.e-newsletter.com.au/NFRM2025 or just keep track of your family’s reading for yourselves.
This is a great way to check off some books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge, if you are participating, or just to build positive reading habits in your household.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Premiers’ Reading Challenge is again under way and already in the first month we have had over 140 students register which is fantastic. This program is a great way for students to share and record their reading experiences from both home and school. Once registered, students will be provided with their own login details to record the books they read online.
All students completing the challenge receive a certificate and book to encourage their continued love of reading. If you have not registered yet there is still plenty of time to do so by picking up a form from your classroom teacher and dropping it in to the box outside the office. If you have any queries please speak to Leanne Peterson (Year 5), Sarah Cornell (Year 5) or Georgia Bourke (Year 1).
