We acknowledge the traditional Aboriginal custodians of the lands, waterways and skies of the Bunurong Peoples of the Kulin Nation where we gather, learn and grow at Aspendale Primary School.
We pay our respects to past and present Traditional Custodians and Elders of all nations, and their ongoing cultural, spiritual and educational practices.
We extend this respect to all Torres Strait Islanders and any First Nations peoples who learn or visit these grounds. We thank you for sharing and caring for the land we are learning on.
New version of the Acknowedgement of Country
Above is an updated Acknowledgment of Country that has been written in consultation with staff, students and members of our community. We recieved positive feedback and approval from our friends at the Bunurong Land Council in 2023.
Aspendale Primary School commemorated Reconciliation Week.
We understand that for many members of the APS community, this is a challenging time.
Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Now more than ever, these conversations are important to be having.
As a school, we commemorated the week by focusing on developing our sense of community and connections with a whole school event.
Our School Captains made a video during camp to commemorate the week. It starts with our school's Acknowledgement of Country. You can watch the video here.
Thank you to Gus, Surina, Warren & Edie for helping create the video. You all did an amazing job understanding the purpose of the week.

Dear parents and carers,
Well done to our students for taking the opportunity to welcome their dad’s or other special people in their life to our school this afternoon and finding the fun in our various activities, even with the ever-changing Spring weather. Members of our school choir gave a fabulous performance to kick off the event. It was lovely to see our children and their loved ones spending time together in our classrooms and across the school. Thanks to our teaching staff for opening up their rooms and providing activities for our community to enjoy.
Parent/Carer/Guardian Opinion Survey
Thanks to those families who have taken the time to complete the Parent Opinion Survey. The survey remains open until the end of term and we are keen to hear from as many people as possible so we can understand what is working at our school and what we can continue to look at.
I have resent the survey link to parents and carers today. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.
2025 Year Six China Study Tour
Next Monday, 16 of our Year Six students will travel with Cait Fletcher, Hong Ma and myself to visit our sister school, Xuri Jingcheng PS, in the city of Nanjing. The students will spend time in Beijing before travelling by bullet train to Nanjing and experiencing school life with our sister school and then finish their adventures in Shanghai.
Thanks to Cait Fletcher and Hong Ma for their work preparing our students for this opportunity and their time away over the next two weeks.
Commemorative 100th Year Photo
One of our past students, Mick Green, will be taking a commemorative 100th year photo of staff and students on our back oval in the first two weeks of Term Four. We haven’t scheduled a date yet as we are waiting to see what the weather presents us with. We will advise our community of the date early in Term Four and we look forward to sharing the images with our school community.
I hope everyone is able to spend some time over the weekend showing their appreciation to their dad or another special person in their life, either by connecting with them or taking some time to share memories of them. I look forward to giving my Dad a ring on Sunday, taking some time to catch up and to say thanks.
Enjoy the end of the week,
Tom
Year Three Camp
It was a cold, wet and windy few days, but what a successful camp it was!
We arrived at school saying our goodbyes to our families, and our hellos to our first adventure of camp. We walked onto the bus and excitement followed us. Waving goodbye as hard as we could, we were on our way to Gundiwindi! Shout out to everyone for being very good bus buddies on a 45 minute drive. We finally arrived at Gundiwindi Lodge, with nerves and excitement. We sat around our new meeting area having our lunch with our friends and met the Gundiwindi captain and their golden retriever Beau. Miss Bladier then called our cabins one by one. We waited in nervous anticipation. Everyone was amazed with their cabins and settled down, got comfortable and were ready for new adventures. The siren went and we sat at the meeting spot while the teachers called out our activity groups.
Activity one: The Giant Swing. Shout out to Milla M for putting her hand up to go first. Fletcher, Isla and Bella for pushing themselves to have a go, and everyone else who pulled people up. Archery was a hoot. Shout out to Ivy for hitting the target and getting 20 points for her team. For dinner we had burgers and chips, and then did an awesome bush dance and got ready for our first night at camp.
On the second day, breakfast wasn’t until 8:00am. Everyone was starving but as soon as we thought we were going to break in and steal breakfast, the siren went off for us to start lining up. We started off with cereal, some of us had two bowls! Then we had some toast and ended with a delicious pancake. We had some time in our cabins to clean and get ready for our activities. We met at the meeting spot and hopped into our groups. We got ready and headed off to our first activity.
The damper was delicious. Shout out to Lexi for being patient while her damper cooked and it turned golden brown. Low ropes - what a tangle! Shout out to Clover and Sammy for trying their best and giving it a go while still encouraging their team members. Then Flying Fox - what a zoom! Shout out to Angus and Mason for pulling the blue rope as hard as they could to help. We enjoyed the lovely movie, Turbo, but we were all super tired and went to bed early.
The last day we were all so sad we had to leave, “we miss you already Gundiwindi.” But we all missed our parents very much and were very tired, especially the teachers!
We then arrived at Lilydale Lake and had an AMAZING playground all to ourselves. But as soon as we arrived back at Aspendale it was raining! So it was the fastest parent pick up ever!
Thank you to all the teachers and our parents who helped us along the way. The countdown is on for next year!

Year 4 Numeracy
The Year 4s have finished their time and duration unit and will start a unit on shape next week. They’ve been enjoying their 5-minute number fluency tasks, which help build speed, accuracy, and confidence when working with numbers.
Year 6 Numeracy
In Mathematics, our Year 6 students have been exploring algebra by identifying rules in growing patterns and using these to solve equations with unknowns. They are also using google sheets to test and verify their patterns and solutions in creative ways.
