Hello everyone,
It’s been terrific to see our school community adjust to daylight savings and settle back into their learning over the first week of Term Four. Our students are doing a good job of remembering their hats and choosing to be kind, safe and fair.
Thank you to Amelia Busuttil and our School Improvement Team for the way they led the school over the last two weeks of term. It was great to hear about all the happenings at Aspendale PS when I would call back from China. Our annual sports colours day looked like another success, with a dance party thrown in! Thanks to our Year Six students, our Student Representative Council members and staff for their organisation.
China Study Tour
Our two week study tour to China was an overwhelming success. Our 16 students represented our school, our state, their families and themselves through their passion for the experience, their generosity towards each person we met, their openness to new opportunities and their gratitude to all involved. We appreciated the opportunity to visit our sister school, Xuri Jingcheng Primary School, and felt a part of their school community throughout our stay. I look forward to our students sharing their reflections in our newsletter over the coming weeks.
Thank you to each of our students and their families for their participation in our study tour. Thank you to Wendy Fan, the Director of Jiangsu Victoria Education Centre, for her organisation of this opportunity and ongoing nurturing of our sister school relationship. Thank you to Cait Fletcher and Hong Ma for their commitment, passion and organisation that allowed for another successful study tour.
Student Movement
Our school leadership team is working on our classroom structure for 2026. If you are intending to transfer to another school, please let your child’s classroom teacher or the school office know to assist us with our decision making.

100th Commemorative Photo
Weather permitting, we will be taking a whole school photo on Tuesday morning. The photo is another opportunity to celebrate our school’s 100th birthday. The photo will be taken using a drone. We are working with a licensed drone pilot and photographer. We look forward to sharing the photo with the school community.
Division Athletics
Today, 14 students have headed to Duncan McKinnon Athletics Track to represent Aspendale Primary School at the Kingston Division Athletics. We look forward to hearing of their achievements that will be a result of their hard work and commitment over several terms. Thanks to Katie Scott for her ongoing commitment to our students’ achieving their personal bests.
State Sport Representative
One of our Year Five students, Baxter Gallagher, has been selected to represent Victoria at the Under 12 National Futsal championships in January on the Gold Coast. It is a terrific achievement to be selected for the Victorian team and it is reflective of Baxter’s attitude and commitment. On behalf of the school community, we wish Baxter well as he continues to train with the team before the competition and look forward to hearing of his adventures at the national championships.
Tomorrow, I am at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership for the next instalment in the Evolve (New Principal’s) course I am completing. I look forward to hearing of the students who receive Student of the Week at tomorrow’s assembly.
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Tom
The Canteen will be open for its first day in term 4 on Friday 10 October. As of week 2 canteen will reopen for both Thursday and Friday as normal, offering lots of delicious lunch options. Sushi will be still be available for Fridays only, with orders closing on the Thursday am prior to deliver day.
Volunteers wanted
Volunteers are still desperately needed in the canteen and all new faces are welcome. No experience is necessary, it is a friendly environment and a great chance to connect with other members of the school community. Students are always excited to see familiar faces when they come to the canteen window.
If volunteering in the canteen is something you have considered in the past, then term 4 is a great time to jump onboard, even one shift a term makes a massive difference and is a real chance to give back to the school community. For any further information enquire at the office or please reach out to our friendly Canteen Manager, Meg at canteen@aspendale.vic.edu.au
