From the Assistant Principal

This week our students have been busy learning, exploring, and contributing to the community. We’re pleased to share some of the great things happening around the school.

Showcases: Foundation and Year Two
Last Friday, families and guests were dazzled by our Foundaiton and Year Two students at our first showcase for 2025! There was acting, dancing, singing and instrument playing, even the recorder sounded lovely! Well done to our Foundaiton and Year Two students for being courageous, confident and entertaining!

Invitation to PYPX created by Eric and voted on by Year 6 students.

PYP Exhibition
Monday marked an exciting milestone for our Year Six students as they showcased the culmination of their individual Units of Inquiry at the PYP Exhibition. It was truly inspiring to see them confidently share their knowledge, perspectives, and actions with classmates, visiting schools, and our wider community throughout the day.

This exhibition is not only a celebration of their learning journey but also a reminder of their potential to make a meaningful impact in the world around them. We hope the experience encourages each student to keep exploring, questioning, and taking purposeful action well beyond the classroom.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this event, and a special acknowledgment to our dedicated Year Six teaching team for their thoughtful planning, engaging learning experiences, and unwavering support for every student along the way.

Remembrance Day

Our School Captains Abby, Steph, Koby and Elliott accompanied by Mr Pearce to the Remembrance Day Service at Longbeach RSL on Tuesday.

Curriculum Day

Tomorrow (14th November) is a curriculum day, students are not to attend school. We will have our final curriculum day on Monday 9th December. TheirCare will run full day programs on these curriculum days.

Bike Education
This week, our Year 4 students have been busy building confidence and improving their bike riding skills through the Bike Education program. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they learn about safe and responsible cycling practices.

A big thank you to our Year 4 teaching team and the many parents and carers who have supported the program — your involvement helps make this valuable learning experience possible.

A friendly reminder that all students should walk their bikes and scooters within school grounds when arriving or leaving. This simple practice helps keep everyone in our school community safe.

Beach Patrol
On Thursday, our Year 3 students swapped the classroom for the coastline as they took part in Beach Patrol. Armed with buckets, gloves, and tongs, they rolled up their sleeves to help keep our local beach clean and beautiful. It was fantastic to see their teamwork and commitment to caring for the environment — every piece of rubbish collected made a difference!

Continuous Reports
On Wednesday, the sixth round of Continuous Reports was released via Sentral. These updates provide families with an ongoing snapshot of each student’s progress and achievements. Our final round for the year will be shared alongside the Semester 2 Reports in Week 11.

Foundation 2026 Transition
On Tuesday morning, we were delighted to welcome many of our 2026 Foundation students for their very first transition session. With proud families looking on, the children eagerly made their way into the classrooms alongside our current Foundation teachers.

During the morning, they shared what they’re most excited about for school next year and began exploring their new learning spaces. It was wonderful to see so many happy, curious faces as they took this exciting first step in their school journey. We can’t wait to welcome them back for the next transition sessions in the coming weeks!

Enjoy the weekend,
Amelia

Ability Day ~ Dylan Alcott Foundation

International Day of People with Disability
Wednesday 3 December

APS ‘Ability Day’

On Wednesday 3 December, we will join people around the world in celebrating the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). Recognised at our school as ‘Ability Day’- through the Dylan Alcott Foundation. In Australia, there are 5.5 million people with disability — that’s 1 in 5 Australians.

The theme for 2025 is: “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” This means making sure everyone can join in, learn, play, and be included, so that our communities grow stronger together. At our school, we can show this by helping each other, including everyone in games and activities, listening to different ideas, and showing kindness and respect to all students and staff.

It’s important to remember that disabilities can be both visible and hidden, and they can affect people in many ways — such as physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, or mental health disabilities. Every person’s experience is unique, and we can all learn from and support each other.

Throughout the day, classes will participate in an activity that builds empathy, inclusion, and awareness. Students will explore what it means to have different strengths and challenges, and how we can make our school a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

This special day is being organised by one of our Year 6 students, Elliott Youngs, as part of his PYPX project about disability inclusion. This is an action he has taken.

We encourage all students to wear a ‘splash of purple’ -the colour of disability awareness—to show their support and celebrate the unique abilities and contributions of every member of our community with an optional gold coin donation to raise money for the Dylan Alcott Foundation.

Through their programs and initiatives, the Dylan Alcott Foundation opens pathways and foster growth across education, sport, the arts, employment, and building a more inclusive society where every young person with disability has the ability to thrive.

If you or your child would like to be involved in any way, big or small, by sharing their lived experience, please reach out to our Inclusion Leader- Jessica Johnston: jessica.johnston2@education.vic.gov.au

Together, we can challenge stereotypes, remove barriers, and celebrate what makes each of us special.

Colour Run - 5th December

Colour Run 5th December is tomorrow.

To celebrate our 100th year, Aspendale Primary School will be holding a Colour Fun Run on Friday the 5th of December (Week 9)!

This exciting, colourful event is all about having fun while raising funds for a student-led initiative, installing new water taps around the school. Each tap costs around $3,000, or for a larger one we require $8,000. We’re hoping this fundraiser, will help us reach our goal and we are very appreciative of any donations.
