We acknowledge the traditional Aboriginal custodians of the lands, waterways and skies of the Bunurong Peoples of the Kulin Nation where we gather, learn and grow at Aspendale Primary School.
We pay our respects to past and present Traditional Custodians and Elders of all nations, and their ongoing cultural, spiritual and educational practices.
We extend this respect to all Torres Strait Islanders and any First Nations peoples who learn or visit these grounds. We thank you for sharing and caring for the land we are learning on.

Dear parents and carers,
It is lovely each morning to greet our students and school community in the yard before seeing them follow our entrance routines and start the school day. Students are making an effort to be at school on time.
Teaching and Learning
Our calm and orderly learning environments have meant that our students have settled in quickly to our teaching and learning programs across the school. Our improvement work in 2025, centred around the science of learning and how this informs our instructional model, has meant there is a focussed energy across the school.

In the junior school, we are entering our third year of the PHORMES systematic synthetic phonics program (F–2). This established approach is showing great maturity and delivering clear results in our classrooms.
You can learn more about Phormes by visiting their website:
Student Attendance
Regular attendance is vital for learning continuity and building deep conceptual understanding. While we understand absences for illness or family travel occur, being in the classroom consistently is the best way for students to achieve their potential.
If you need support with your child's attendance, please contact their classroom teacher.
School Council
Next Thursday, nominations for our 2026 School Council open.
Our School Council is a valuable and essential component of our school community, providing governance and representing the different elements of our school community. We are keen to welcome new and returning members to Council to further represent our parents and carers across the school community, allowing us to make informed decisions as a school leadership.
Nomination forms will be available at the office. If you're interested in what’s involved, please contact the office or chat with Amelia Busutiil, Amelia Mastorakos, or myself.
Bike and Scooter Safety
Thanks to our students and community members who are walking their bikes and scooters within the school grounds.
This week we have also briefed senior students on road safety: anyone crossing Laura Street must use the designated school crossing. Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
Swim Trials
Last Friday saw students across Years 3-6 participate in our District Swimming trials at Waves Leisure Centre. It was terrific to see students putting themselves forward for this event. Thanks to all staff involved, with a special thanks to our PE teacher Katie Scott for coordinating the event.
Upcoming Curriculum Day
We have a student-free curriculum day on Friday 6th March. Our staff will further their understanding of the science of how students learn and how this informs our instructional model. Our OSHC provider, TheirCare, are offering care for students on the day.

Enjoy the rest of the week and I look forward to saying hello to you at our ‘Night on the Green’ on Friday 20th February!
