The Department of Education (DE) has a statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including at Aspendale Primary School.
You can find information and resources about the enrolment timeline and procedures at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).
To make an enrolment enquiry, you can contact the office on 9580 3255 or fill in the below form.

Kinder to Foundation (Prep) Transition
The transition from Kindergarten to Primary School marks an important milestone in the lives of both children and their families. At Aspendale Primary School, we recognise that this period can bring a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Our dedicated team is here to guide and support you every step of the way, ensuring your child’s transition into Foundation is a smooth and positive experience.
To support families during this important time, we offer a range of opportunities including school tours, an information evening, and a series of thoughtfully designed transition sessions.
Our transition sessions are fun, interactive, and engaging, with a strong focus on helping children feel confident and enthusiastic about starting school. These sessions also provide a gentle way to ease any nerves or ‘first day’ worries.
Aspendale Primary School also maintains strong, collaborative relationships with local kindergartens, helping to further support a seamless move for your child into our school community.
We are proud to offer the following transition experiences at Aspendale Primary School:

Story Time with Mr Pearce and Mrs Busuttil
Mr Pearce, our Principal, and Mrs Busuttil, our Assistant Principal, take great pleasure in visiting local kindergartens to meet and engage with our future students. During these visits, they enjoy reading stories to the children and addressing any questions they may have about beginning their journey at Aspendale Primary School.
APS Experience
During Term 3, local kindergarten children are warmly invited to visit our Foundation classrooms. These sessions include storytime and a fun, engaging activity. Our current Foundation students take great joy in welcoming the kinders, sharing their own experiences, and offering support as they prepare to start school.
This visit also gives the children a wonderful opportunity to explore the school environment, become familiar with the Foundation classrooms, and see some friendly, familiar faces.
2026 Foundation Information Night
Our Foundation Information Night, held on Tuesday 2nd of September, provides new and prospective families with an opportunity to learn more about Aspendale Primary School, our teaching and learning programs, and key information to support your child’s start to school.
This informative session runs for approximately one hour and includes the chance to meet our current Foundation teaching team and members of the Leadership team. Families will also receive a take-home ‘Foundation 2026 Information Pack’, containing helpful resources and additional details to guide you through the transition process.
Transition Sessions
Throughout November and December, children enrolled for Foundation are invited to attend a series of four transition sessions, led by our experienced Foundation teaching team. Each session runs for one hour and offers children the chance to explore the school environment through play, participate in group activities such as circle time, and engage in hands-on learning experiences.
These sessions are thoughtfully designed to be fun, welcoming, and supportive—helping children build confidence, form connections with future classmates, and begin to feel at home at Aspendale Primary School.
Please see below for the dates and times of our 2025 Transition Sessions.
Session 1: Tuesday 11th November
Session 2: Tuesday 18th November
Session 3: Tuesday 25th November
Session 4: Tuesday 2nd December
Meet the teacher
During our final transition session on Tuesday 9th of December, students have the special opportunity to meet their 2026 teacher and visit their new classroom. Children are invited into the Foundation classrooms to create a ‘Teddy Bear Crown’ to wear at our Teddy Bear Picnic.
In this session, students will also be introduced to their Year 6 Buddy, who will support them throughout the coming year.
At the end of our final transition session, families are warmly invited to join us in the courtyard for the Teddy Bear Picnic—a joyful gathering featuring music, dancing, and sing-alongs. This is a wonderful chance to meet your child’s teacher, their buddy, and our specialist teachers for the year ahead.
First Day of School 2026
The first day of school is a special and memorable milestone—and it will arrive before you know it! On this day, we warmly invite parents and carers to come into the classroom to help their child settle in. You’re welcome to assist your child with finding their bag locker and choosing an activity to begin the day. Once your child is feeling comfortable and engaged, we encourage you to say a warm goodbye and allow them to begin their school journey with growing independence.
Starting school is a wonderful and exciting time, the teachers at Aspendale Primary School look forward to helping your family begin this journey.
